Design Beaufort's B'day Logo: Make $1000

So, graphic designers, this is pretty cool. Beaufort's Tricentennial Committee has just released a Call For Entries in its competition to create the "official" logo to represent Beaufort's Tricentennial, which, as you probably know, is rapidly approaching. That's right: next January, Beaufort will hit the Big 3-0-0, and it's a chance for one of you creative types out there to make your mark on history while pocketing a cool thousand.

The winning logo will be used from now through the 2011 celebrations of Beaufort’s 1711 charter as South Carolina’s second city. It may be reproduced on items as small as key chains and lapel pins or as large as banners and billboards.

“We are looking for something that is tasteful, elegant and appropriately representative of this wonderful city’s deep and historic roots,” says Mike McFee, a Beaufort City Council member and chairman of the Tricentennial Committee. “It also must work as a design on lapel pins and T-shirts and banners, so that’s another part of the challenge.”

The Call for Entries is being disseminated through local, Southeastern and national arts and graphic design groups. It is available for viewing or downloading at  www.cityofbeaufort.org.
Submissions are due April 15 to Jon Goebel at the University of South Carolina-Beaufort, 801 Carteret St, Beaufort 29902. Logo designs will be judged on artistic merit, relevance to the Tricentennial project, simplicity and reproducibility.

Designs can be submitted on CDs as vector or raster artwork done on Mac or PC platforms. An independent panel of judges experienced in graphic design will select the winning design.

Questions should be directed to John Williams of Williams Group PR, which is assisting on this project, at john.williams.pr@gmail.com.
